For example, if we chose the " Make it right " foundation which is rebuilding after Katrina can we restore Louisiana to its former glory in record time?

  1. No, unfortunately most organization - even charitable ones - follow the first rule of business: stay in business. If they solve one problem, they just move on to another. We'll never run out of worthy causes.

  2. I doubt it. Too many " Do Gooders " are running  some of these charities  and they are skimming off the top and lining their own pockets. It does not pay them  for the particular charity to be financially secure. THis is their full time job, and a very lucrative one  it is.

  3. Throwing money at a problem without doing anything to address the underlying cause of that problem won't eliminate it.  It takes money AND action to work on social issues, even Katrina.  With that, they need able bodied people to do the building, and now that it's not the issue du jour, not that many people are interested anymore.

  4. Maybe. But one dollar is way too little. I would send way more than that.

  5. maybe, for a special purpose, goal specific charity. but most charities have an open-ended goal and purpose and giving to them should be limitless. for example children charities, madd, goodwill & salvation army, etc..

as for katrina, i still don't understand what's taking so long. i thought the government already allocated over $100 billion for the rebuilding and both houses of congress approved the spending measures 2 years ago .
