If everyone didn't buy gas for one week.....what happens?

I think if everyone went on strike for a week to lower gas prices and refused to buy fuel for a week they gas company would have to lower gas prices. If noone bought gas for 1 day they would go bankrupt...think about it. When demand is up the price goes up. When demand goes down so does the price. Is there any possible way to organize a fuel strike? What would u do?

  1. Everyone would buy A LOT of gas the next week to offset the "lost" money. So they'd follow a record low week with a record high week. Plus oil is bought in futures so the gas prices now are a reflection of oil prices a few months ago.

  2. If everyone didn't buy gas for one week, then everyone would buy gas the week before and the week after.  It is inevitable.  They have us where the want us.

  3. the above are all correct the gas companies know you have to come back and they can wait you out, and then there are the suggestions that you boycott one company and force them to drop their prices, but gasoline isn't bought and sold in the way that many other products are, if you boycott mobil, citgo wont be able to supply the extra that they are selling at the pump so they'll make up the difference by buying from mobil  and prices don't move, if we really want to bring down gasoline prices we need to reduce the amount of gasoline that need and we need to push for anti-trust laws to be enforced on the refinery end to bump competition back up, we need to overrule the environmentalists who make building new refineries and looking for new oil reserves next to impossible... and in the end we also have to remember oil companies are huge corporations owned by millions of people including your neighbors and likely you in your retirement investments and such, and while we are all suffering from the current prices and its easy to become outraged when you hear about there huge profit margins, but remember thats where the tax money that pays for all those government programs comes from, and go look up visas profits for the same time frame, visa provides a whole lot less and produces nothing but has just as huge profit margins....I wish new the answer in the end it all sucks

  4. a week would do little good  even if it was everyone you know and everyone they know did it.....maybe if there was a boycott of one brand or company they would have to lower their gas but even then there just too many people driving that wouldnt follow thru still it would have to be months of not going to say any shell gas station to do any good... i think if everyone would pick a company not to buy gas from and hold to not buying thier gas they would have to do something or go out of business bt it would be really hard to get the mesage out ..... so pick one and pass it on let start now you ready you have to pick a brand or comapny not to use and then tell evberyoine not to use that also and they have to tell everyone they know and we all have to tell everyone we know and they have to tell everyone they know and in a few months they will have them  worrying  maybe by this time next yr anyways

  5. Honestly it sounds like a good idea but how do we know that it won't cause oil prices to go higher, the reason I say that is if no ones buying it they'll lose profits so the need to make up for it somehow.  1 week later it would be $1.00 more a gallon and all of our cars would be on empty then they would be making better money.  Think about it, it doesn't have that much to do with supply and demand its more of their gaining a profit so they continue to keep raising higher, and we all know higher prices equals more money in there pocket.  I mean what can we do we need to go to work, get food can't do that without and automobile and the oil companies know it so there ripping us off.  We really need to come up with a true solution to reducing gas prices and keeping them down.

  6. We need to do a 30 day boycott for each major oil company.Pick on major oil company and dont buy gas from them for 30 days.

  7. You would buy gas the week before of after no change in price.

  8. we'd see the day that nobody died.

  9. Unless people quit driving, boycotting for a day or a week wont make a difference.

More people should invest in bicycles, walking shoes, and health!

  10. It wouldn't do anything.

  11. It wouldn't do any good, because people would buy extra gas before or after the strike.  The only way to reduce prices is to reduce total demand.
