I don't believe that statement to be correct.

Our self esteem and our feelings about ourselves come from deep inside us, rather than from the thoughts, statements and/or perceptions of others.

It matters not if everyone seems to have our best interests at heart.  Deep down, we need to know that false personas and personal interests always occur in interpersonal relationships of any kind.

Relying on others to preserve our sanity is a non-starter.

i guess we all feel the need to be loved and to have close friends to care for us... and maybe we're just looking for approval....
