If everyone stopped using cars...how long would the human race have?

I read in a book that if everyone stopped using cars it would buy the human race about an extra 10,000 years or something, but i cant remember if that was the answer or not.

Human beings are adaptable creatures. If we have to stop using cars, we will adapt to that in whatever way we find possible. Humans nowadays are more likely to go insane and kill themselves rather than adapt though....

There are many studies about the effects of humans on the environment, but as far as the apocalypse theories--cars have never been considered to be the end-all of human civilization. There are many viable arguments about things that may help keep the earth habitable, but there is no sound correlation between driving cars and the end of the human race. In the grand scheme of things, the gasoline powered car will probably be phased out long before the end of human existence and won't be of major concern.

But the bottom line, is that nobody really knows. For all we know an asteroid could hit us and we'd all be dead in a couple of weeks. 10,000 years is way too far out there to make any predictions.

well 2 years since noone would be able to drive to the grocery store. Noone would have money from work. Everyone would die of starvation eventually.

that's just theory that is not practical at all, you see, you just can't ask people to reduce their life to a more difficult life, it ain't gonna work cuz it's against human nature....it is more interesting to try to invent cleaner, more efficient engines...for example, BMW has tried to develop ordinary car engine (internal combustion engine) that has the same cleanliness as the so-called hybrid engine (green engine)...it's just awesome engineering....

I will not be here in 10,000 years so I don't care what they think.  We could stop using cars and electricity today.  We could have stopped many years ago.  Our government is in their pockets and it is big business.

Alternitive energy has been available for many many years.  The Germans made a VW that was fueled by water in 1930.

well i dont; think it would happen UNLESS the WORLD RUNS OUT OF OIL (which i think it's staring to happen we've consumed more than haf od the world's oil) and if does human are evolved species THEY WOULD NOW LEARN HOW TO WALK to distances, or take a bike then they would realize it' isn;t har at all and why did;bet they choose to go GREEN and this will be great human zivilizaion thinking again.

About a year. Civilization as we know it is dependent upon transportation. It would be complete anarchy within a week.
