Question:

If evolution is true, why do I laugh at my ancestors everytime I go to the zoo?

I don't laugh at my parents. I don't even laugh at funny looking people. But it never fails, every time I visit the zoo, I laugh inwardly at the monkeys and think the apes and gorillas are ugly. I've also pointed at them while I'm laughing. I may laugh inwardly, but hey, I'm still laughing at them.

It seems to me that common courtesy would keep me from laughing at my ancestors.

So how can we be evolved if I laugh at my ancestors?

Why do I not do it now, but when I see them in cages, I do?

Isn't this disrespect?

  1. Those apes and monkeys in the zoo are not your ancestor. I am laughing at your total ignorance of evolutionary theory. The piquant part is that you do not have any idea what I am talking about.

PS Well, it looks like everyone told you anyway, though it probable did your pea brain no good at all.

  2. They are not your ancestors.  They are very, very distant relatives.  We all have a relative or two we laugh at.

  3. I don't understand how laughing at your ancestors would disprove evolution... if that's what you're getting at.

  4. we laugh at them because it is uncanny how much they are like humans.. and it isn't disrespect because they are not 'human' they are merely monkeys.. and they are not our ancestors.

  5. they asrent ur ancestors..your ancestors are long past dead ..apes are jus closely related, but are in a different branch

  6. I suppose it would be considered disrespectful, but knowledge of your ancestry is not instinct.

If you were not raised to believe this then it would not be in your nature to feel they are your ancestors.

And really, they're kind of goofy.  If your parents were funny looking enough you would either laugh inwardly (just like you do with the monkeys) or you would be really embarrassed.

The closer we are to something the more 'normal' it seems to us.

  7. They're not your ancestors. You've got a long way to go.

  8. due to poor and pure innocence and ignorance

  9. Of course not. We portray monkeys as silly creatures in the media. The Monkey in that Aladdin movie was funny, alot of monkeys are used as comedic characters in plots, you were just born into a society that thinks monkeys are funny, there was one in that Night at the Museum movie. That d**n monkey made me laugh every time. It's all good. They really don't know what your doing anyway when your laughing at them. Keep it up.

  10. What a brilliant scientific discovery!! Stop the press!!

If you laugh at something they cannot be your relatives.  BRILLIANT!!

You must be from the public school system

  11. Because monkeys are not our ancestors... They are from another branch of the evolution tree... But we do share a common ancestor...

  12. Monkeys are not your ancestors...you might want to do a little research.. we are related to a ape creature but not monkeys.

  13. because evolution isn't true...go ahead and laugh! they are cute and funny.

  14. Monkies and apes are charming and they do things that we find funny because some of the things they do are well below human intellect.  I love them =)

    PS, I do laugh at my relatives ^_^;;

  15. I laugh at my relatives too.

  16. Your inability to maintain a minimal standard of decorum has no bearing on whether or not evolution is true. Also, not even evolution says that monkeys and apes are our ancestors. If you are seeing your ancestors there, talk to the Ghost Whisperer or something. Also, if you do talk to her, tell her I said hi and see if you can get her number for me.

  17. Are any of your ancient ancestors alive today?  No, well then the fact that monkeys are alive today tells you they aren't ancestors.  They are descended from the same ancestors as us but have become a less sophisticated member of the family tree.  Kind of like you and I might at one point been from common ancestors at one point in ancient history but you have become a less sophisticated person who I would laugh at in a cage.

  18. 1)  They're not your ancestors.  They are your distant cousins.

    2)  Don't worry - they're laughing at you, too.

  19. I don't know...I don't laugh at the animals in the zoo. Personally, think of it like this:

You're a free bird. Someone catches you and takes you to a zoo. No more open skies. No more of your friends or families.

    I don't think that's a very good example...at all! *Blushes*

But, imagine being in the same cage ALL THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Ok, how about staying in your room, or just your house and never leaving.

  20. maybe you think they're funny
