If farts are lighter than air, how come they don't just go up?

I mean they really linger and sometimes they even follow you.

I got up and moved 10 feet away from my soul mate, farted and when I sat on the couch my love was holding her pretty nose saying:

"What crawled up your butt and died?"

Is this a primate problem or do all mammals suffer so?

Do colonics help?

I need to know

  1.

if they go away real fast

no one else can enjoy them

  2. Yes it can follow you but I don't know how far exactly.  Like a large truck speeding on a highway any light garbage will be "sucked" in right behind the truck because the air is pushing to fill in the empty space the truck left behind.

And this is definitely normal. If your covered up then the smell may empty out slower than the usual and so if you travel the distance, the smell is still there slowly leaking out.  The smell also spreads horizontally not just vertically.  The more it spreads out the less concentrated and powerful it becomes.

  3. The fact is that farts are not lighter than air.  They are mostly swallowed air with a small amount of chemicals produced by the intestinal flora that provide the odor.

  4. well when you f**t, the f**t is trapped in your pants. Some leaked out, some didn't. Or the smell maybe absorbed into your pants, and then slowly released.
