  1. Legally, if you don't notify the biological father, and he finds out, the adoption is illegal, and if you do this knowing where and who he is, you could actually face criminal charges.  In a case where he doesn't want to be a father, a simple, if you sign this, you'll be released from child support should work to get him to sign.  Good luck.

  2. You still have to go through the process of tracking down the father. If you are stating that you don't know who the father is, most courts will require you to place ads in the local newspaper that says " if anyone has had sexual relations with so and so between these dates, please come forward for parental rights"

or something to that effect.  It may be very embarrassing to place that kind of ad.

Plus if the father does show up later on and was never properly notified, his parental rights can be reinstated.

Do it the right way to save yourselves a lot of problems and grief later on.

  3. If he knows about the child and is ordered to pay support. He can stop the adoption if he files a claim. Best bet is to inform him he might just sign over his rights if not you will at least know where he stands. Don't do any thing that will come back and slap you in the face.
