I really think that the wimbledon final was like a HUGE WAR..one wins the loser takes time to recover...like japan recovered from the nuclear bombs..

If federer had won....I think Nadal would be no. 3 at the moment and not no. 1 and djokovic would be no.2...such was the epicness of the match....

Don't you agree? What do you think??

  1. Well from the rankings perspective it's kind of hard to calculate what the rankings would've been because there so weird LOL. But I think Federer would've still been number 1 if he had won and Rafa number 2 because even though Rafa won he was still number 2 and maybe the points gap wouldn't have gotten so close after it did when Rafa won. I can't see Djokovic moving up to number 2 because he did lose in the early rounds and he probably would've had to win Wimbledon to even get close to number 2. From a personal perspective I think Rafa would've rebounded and just kept going like he did the two years he lost and though Federer was obviously very disappointed with the loss he still went on and keeps going on with the season.

  2. Nope...Nadal would still be number one because he won the french open and many other smaller toutements to be at #1.  Its all about the points man.  and dojokovic would still stay at #3 anyway....

  3. he would still no. 1 since federer lost few tournament after it and nadal won them and he also won olympic gold

  4. i think nadal would remain as number 2 becuase ha had won some masters bfore the wimbledon compare to djokovic..

do you think that when federer lose the wimbledon, he probably nearer to become no.3 rather than going back to no.1?

    i dont think so.

  5. Well, I think even if Federer had of won Wimbledon, that match would have set him back. He worked so hard during it, and with him having mono at the start of the year, it didn't do him any favours. Yes, it would have prolonged Federer's reign at the top, and maybe Nadal wouldn't have been number 1 until next year. Federer might have progressed further into tournaments in Toronto and Cinncy, but to be honest, his biggest problem is his physical state which wouldn't have changed even if he had won the match. He would have a better outlook on his year, and maybe wouldn't have put so much pressure on himself for the US Open and Beijing. So, in short, mentally I think it would have helped him maybe progress a bit further, but physically Federer is still lagging behind Nadal and even if he had won, Nadal would eventually have become the top player.

  6. Yup, I think Federer would rebound, and so would Nadal. He'll pick up his game and get ready for the upcoming matches. And he wouldn't be number 3, considering Djokovic lost in the early rounds. He wouldn't be number three because he just would't budge from the top 2. If Federer would have won Wimbly, he will be number one and Nadal number 2.

But he did, and became number one :)

    Vamos Rafa!

  7. If federer had won wimbledon, I think Nadal would have been totally shattered. He apparently cried after losing 2007 final when he had breakpoints in the final set, it would have been much worse this time especially after he had 2 sets to love lead and later few championship points.

I think part of the reason why Federer lost early in the two masters tournaments are that he didn't recover properly from that defeat and suffered loss of confidence.

Also I think there was a 600 point shift after that final, so Federer would definitely have been number one.

The other thing to take into account is that other players started believing that they could beat Roger after his loss and so started playing really good against him while nadal rode on the immense confidence he gained from that victory.

So basically IMO federer would have remained number one with better performances in the remaining tournaments while Nadal would not have played HC as well as he's playing now. I don't think he'd lose his number 2 spot though.

  8. Nah I reckon he'd still be right on his tail. He won gold didn't he. And stop thinking what could have happened and concentrate on what's gonna happen.

  9. Federer would definitely stay No.1, and his mentality would be a lot better, but I agree with some of the earlier people that his physical shape would still lag behind Nadal. Still, it doesn't matter that Nadal won a gold medal, because Federer won one to, but in doubles.

  10. No Nadal would be No 2 and Federer might have got gold at the olympics
