  1. A semifinal in Cincinnati guarantees Nadal the No. 1 spot on August 18, right after the Olympics – points from last year's event in Cincinnati come off that week, and once those are gone, Federer will drop behind Nadal no matter how the two do at the Olympics.

And contrary to what others believe they will be giving points for the olympics. 400 to the winner. Even if nadal loses in the first round of the olympics and federer wins the title, Nadal will still be no. 1 and Federer will still be no. 2 by aug. 18. That's why it saya in the Y! tennis that novak has delayed the INEVITABLE.

Here is a link that should explain everything:   http://www.tennis.com/features/general/f...

  2. Yay he rocks and yup ^_^

  3. No on August 18th he will be number two even if he wins the olympics and Nadal comes out in the first round. Only 400 points are on offer for the winner and there will be roughly a 900 point gap between them.

EDIT: He has a net loss from Cincy and rogers of about 775 while nadal has a net gain of about 450.

  4. The Olympics have ATP ranking points, but Federer will not be no.1 again if he wins gold. If Rafa had lost to Lapentti (which he didn't) and then lost in the 3rd round of Olympics and Roger won gold, then Fed would be no.1. But now Rafa is guaranteed no.1 on August 18th even if he loses in the first round in Beijing and Fed wins the title.

  5. As far as ATP rankings, he's still number one.  First loss at Wimbledon in 6 years and everyone's on his ***... Ridiculous.

  6. Points are awarded for Olympics Tennis.. It depends on how far Nadal will go... The points are given as follows :

    Ranking Points

    Men's ATP ranking points

    Gold Medal - 400

    Silver Medal - 280

    Bronze Medal - 205

    Loser 3rd/4th - 155

    Quarterfinals - 100

    Round of 16 - 50

    Round of 32 - 25

    1st Round - 5

With only 400 points for a win, Fererer needs to win the gold and Nadal to drop out early...

  7. No, thats why they say Nadal is "certain to be number 1" on August 18th.

  8. I LOVE FEDERE

  9. Yes, definitely.

  10. i think Federer is still number 1 in ATP ranking currently. if he won gold at the Olympics, he will further stay as no 1.

  11. no, the olympics aren't part of the ATP ranking system. He will, atleast, have to wait for the US Open

  12. federer is still number one..

and i dont think olympics awards atp points.

  13. idk

    i like nadal though

    but federer is amazing also

i think he deserves to be at the top for at least another year

  14. i definitely think so

  15. Edit: Actually on August 18 Federer will fall behind Nadal by more than 400 points (I'm a little confused by exactly how much though) without counting the Olympics so even winning the gold (400 points) would not allow Federer to gain back the number one spot.
