Question:

If feminists are so fond of political correctness...?

... how come some of the least PC statements come from feminists e.g.

"Being a housewife is an illegitimate profession" - Vivian Gornick.

"All men are rapists and that's all they are" - Marilyn French.

"Women are the more spiritually advanced s*x" Erica Jong.

"If life is to survive on this planet, there must be a decontamination of the Earth. ...a drastic reduction of the population of males" Prof Mary Daly.

And it goes on and on. Why do feminists demand respect from men when they show none? Why is it perfectly ok to insult men but un-PC (in fact illegal in some countries) to insult women?

  1. Those quotes illustrate how some groups feel justified in turning injustice and hatred towards the people who did them wrong. It's even more interesting when people pick up some other wild viewpoints along the way (e.g. the last quote referring to eugenics and "mastering" the other group for vengeance)

Angry, reactionary viewpoints like that are only temporary. Once the water takes time to settle, we find the only thing people truly want is equal treatment. That's exactly what all people deserve.

  2. There are crazy people in every group. That doesn't make the whole group crazy or wrong just those few legitimately crazies.

  3. I don't know man.  I'm sorry you've gotten that.  But I do respect men.  I'm with them all day, everyday.  And they show me respect as well.

This is one feminist that believes in a two way street.

But I will tell you that if I see thru a man's b.s., then he doesn't get my respect.  Or if a man doesn't respect me, he will get what he gives.  But for the most part, I do like them and respect them.

  4. Basically, it let's them control what other people can and cannot say. They attempt to control discourse so they can attain a position of influence. Fascist and Communist regimes are familiar with this technique. They silence their opposition because open and meaningful debate will weaken them considerably.

If they control open discourse, nobody can publicly hold them accountable for faults that would completely discredit them in the eyes of rational people.

  5. Because they are bitter , dried up husks of women. And yes, I am a woman. I believe that men and women are equal.Thats it. No need to male bash. Both sexes have their good and bad points.

  6. "If life is to survive on this planet, there must be a decontamination of the Earth. ...a drastic reduction of the population of males" Prof Mary Daly.

OMG.  Don't worry about morons like that.  There are plenty of better human beings of whatever genitalia to protect us ALL and our rising social consciousness from that sort, I assure you.  Good grief.  How do people like that get to be professors?  I mean, women hear all the time from guys that the world would be a better place without women, a woman's place is to shut up and get out from in front of television and are good for only getting guys beers, that men resent the presence of women in their all-boys clubs and such.  But, they're just boys and low-lifes.  Seriously, was she fired for saying that?  If not, WHY not?

  7. Its all got to do with what the feminists perception/version of pollitical correctness and certainly their version of equality.

  8. Feminism is about equality between the sexes and not about putting men down.  You are quoting examples of a stereotype.  What about all the feminists who are not putting others down, you forgot to mention those.

  9. You forgot Valerie Solanas. And the Marilyn French quote comes from one of her novels - the character who says it is portrayed as a slightly crazy extremist.

The people you quote are some of the more extreme old prophets from the seventies. Most feminists, at least today, do not agree with them and, yes, say so - look at a few of the hundreds of feminist books that have been published since then. If you want to be intellectually honest, you can't cherry-pick quotes and then judge all feminists by them.

  10. oh come on, those are the extremists. -_- and even if some of them are not extremists, it's only to make a point! And correctness is not a word, btw. And it's not ok to insult ANYONE, but some women feel that because of how men treated them for so d**n long, and how they're still treated today, that they have a RIGHT to insult women! We're called b*****s and ho's and tramps and s****s by MEN! are there any words to refer to men like that? NO. Do you ever hear women talking about men like that? NO. So take yuh d**n time hoss!

  11. Because men hold a disproportionate amount of the power, including power over women's lives.  Think, for example, of the number of countries in the world today in which honor killings of women by men are tolerated, even by the legal establishment.  Think of the persistence of the pay disparity between men and women even in Western nations.

A man disparaging women is not the same as a woman disparaging men.

  12. maybe because they have felt disrespected

  13. im a woman and its not ok to insult a man. it shows her ignorance on what it means to be an equal. however, i have NO TOLERANCE FOR VIOLENCE TOWARD WOMEN AND NO TOLERANCE FOR CHAUVANISM.

you will find that many women out there are quite respectful. i dont need to insult men to feel better, i KNOW I am an equal, my life proves it, no offense

  14. Not all feminist make these statements and I agree with you that it is not OK.  Unfortunately, there are people out there who make the rest of us look bad with their actions and words.  It is important to remember not to stereotype, make assumptions or generalize.  The quotes you shared are perfect examples of this however, assuming that all feminist reflect these statements which were made by only a handful of women is doing the same thing.  You are right though, there is not a whole lot of logic in fighting for equal rights to then turn around and degrade others.  I think it is important for people who are standing up for a cause to reflect the change they are striving for through their own actions and voices.

  15. Good question

    ask a feminist.

  16. Dang you so burned all the fems here nice one keep it up.

  17. I agree with what Tracy said.

  18. not all feminists like PC... obviously these don't/

  19. Actually, those are radicals that call themselves something else.

They aren't quite human beings, let alone "feminists."

Sorry you're having such a hard time getting laid.

Women, feminists or not, typically aren't into wussies.

Might want to work on that.

  20. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with those statements but it has to do with the whole oppressor versus the oppressed. If you're oppressed you get to say things that the oppressor isn't allowed to say.

Feminism shouldn't be about women being better, it should be about women being equal.

  21. Polcor only works one-way, didn't you know. It's dishonest and pseudo-intellectual.

Polcor is for people who are determined to be "offended", come what may. And they are the most offensive people of all.
