It's both and without one or the other you wouldn't be a good friend. What friendship is all about is being there when you are needed the most. You "give" your assistance and you will "take" what has happen to make it for the better.

I think true friendship is much more than giving or taking,it should be about  enjoying time spent together,sometimes it can be about a common cause or interests,some of my closest friends have never gave or taken material things to or from me but at the same time as a last resort I wouldn't hesitate to take or give my true friends something needed

I'm both but mostly i am a giver that i have some friends who abuse it.

in true friendships, nobody should be counting and it shouldn't matter who the giver or taker is.

I'm both. I feel bad if I just take &take &take. I feel unloyal &rude. Sometimes though, I feel like I'm the only giver, like attention wise. I feel like I give my friends attention, but they don't give much back to me. But, whatev.

Friendship is not give OR take, it is give AND take.

That means at different times and in different circumstances you might give in and in another your friend will give in. If it is one sided as in you are always taking then you are controlling the dynamics of the relationship, adversely, if you are always giving in you are subordinate in the relationship. Neither of those two suggest a healthy relationship.
