I received a letter stating that I would receive stimulus payment on 06/20/2008 and it is 06/24/2008 and still have not received it and I also owed taxes for 2007. Is anyone in this situation and know if the payment is applied to taxes owed and about how long it is until payment is actually received? I have tried contacting IRS. IMPOSSIBLE

  1. Go to IRS.gov

They have FAQ that will answer your question.

I do believe it said if you owed taxes or defaulted on your student loan, that the money you owe will be deducted.

    But please check for yourself.

  2. IF you owe then the stimulus will be offset and applied to your debt, IRS must send a letter letting you know how much you qualify for, which they did, the only thing is IRS didn't make a different letter for those that the stimulus will be applied to any government debt.

Of course it is impossible to contact IRS, people are not waiting the allotted time to call, everyone is calling 2 or 3 days after the scheduled date.

    Patience.

  3. The date on the letter is the date it would have been  mailed by.  But if you owe tax, it was probably taken and applied to what you owe - if so, you'll get another letter telling you how much was applied to what.

  4. If you owe for 2007 you wont get a stimulus check.  Everyone got the letter. Your stimulus will be applied to your back taxes.  We were still making payments on 2006, we got the letter and then another later a few weeks after the date on the letter saying our check was applied to our debt.

  5. did you send in your payment for what you owed?  I did and my check is coming next week.  Albeit 3 weeks late, but hey, i'm still getting it.
