  1. I would disagree that ALL scientists believe it's real. However, I wouldn't see the TOP contributor as being an authority. He/She is just good at answering a lot of questions.

  2. because he is paid big money by the oil companies :)

the world is always warming or cooling, so maybe he said it during a cooling phase? :)

  3. Because he has the time and patience to answer the same stupid global warming question over and over and over again. More intelligent folks get bored with that much more quickly.

  4. Another small piece of evidence in favor of global warming in the link at the bottom.

This seemed to be a scientific debate! and It looked to me like he debated your shaky facts quite strongly.

Did you ever figure out the difference between rounding and averaging?

  5. I refer you to question http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind... my explanation given there of why the top contributor does not present the truth was: "Leadership on the Y!A scoreboard is related to a number of factors, persistence, inventiveness, lack of competitors on his side of the argument with equal or near equal qualities, ability to rabble rouse, a stock of arguments to use in different permutations, the ability to bounce back when the going gets hard and resurrect arguments even if they have been effectively countered (there are always new people who are unaware of previous discussions), a sizable number of people of similar persuasion asking questions and giving best answer to arguments they agree with, a retentive mind for interesting links and snippets of information, a way with sarcasm etc etc"

  6. Are you really a Dr or just pretending to be to appear smarter than you are?

  7. Dr. Jello, the top contributor is a joker and he appeals to those who either do not understand the science, or don't want to understand the science.

He most likely also has multiple profiles and cheats by asking and answering his own questions. There is no way that anyone could recieve over 1200 "Best Answers" in 1/2 a year, especially since his answers are not informative, have no sources, and completely misrepresent known science.

  8. I think the DENIER/skeptics just report the credible posts that differ from their opinion to get them deleted.  It creates the appearance of a majority.  Any research at all will tell you they are the tiniest of minorities.

Becoming the top poster is also a matter of just doing a lot of posting.  If you read them individually, some of them make some sense.  Taken collectively, many of them are mutually exclusive, yet appear over and over again.

  9. I think its real everyone is worried that it is coming.

  10. I don't know if Dr. J is a scientist or not.  Please don't confuse Yahoo Answers with a real scientific discussion.  Oops, sorry, I forgot that there are no real scientific discussions going on because the alarmists won't debate their "facts."

Obviously, not all scientists agree with AGW.  If they did, the alarmists wouldn't need a consensus.  Consensus does not equal scientific fact.  Remember, the consensus of the day was that the world was flat.

  11. LOL

Because the top contributor is neither a real Dr. nor a scientist.  Just like you are neither.

And the premise of your question is also false (another indication that you have no education in logic or science).  No one has said "all the scientist", it's the vast majority of climate scientists.

  12. is he a scientist. he is he top contributor because of populist vote nothing more. he has yet to provide one piece on info backing his theory's.

  13. Yahoo Answers has nothing to do with science.  For example, you can go onto the 'Flat Earth' webpage and find that their equivalent to the top contributor spends all day posting that the earth is flat and the sun and moon revolve around the earth.

You may also notice that the majority of posts and / or best answers go to a small group of people who reuse the same arguments - many of which have been long refuted.  You may also notice that most of the people asking these questions are the same people and same questions over and over again - either 'sock puppets' or people with an agenda to flood the board.

The best way to tell if the 'Top Contributor' is actually providing valuable information is to look at their questions and answers and see if they make any cohesive sense.  Unfortunately, you may notice that this 'Top Contributor' has their information set to Private.

Basically, to assume that Yahoo Answers means anything in the real world is as wrong as assuming that (any / all) the people on Yahoo Answers know what they are talking about.  You can see time and time again that a small group of extremists yelling loudly can drown out a large group of rational people and any rational discussion.  That's exactly the case on Y! Answers.

Also, keep in mind that many corporations have a vested interest in stalling debate on AGW and solutions to it.  A small investment or a little bit of 'astroturfing' can save them millions or billions of dollars in the long run.  If you look at things like leaded gasoline, asbestos, or tobacco you can see plenty of companies that have done the same thing - hiring scientists / shills, confusing the public, and protecting their own investments.  Do you really think they just stopped and decided to play fair?

  14. this is an excellent question, and it leads to an even better one:  why do people at the "top" levels of government deny the science that leads one to agree with climate change as a real threat?

propaganda occurs in many places, even here on YA.  as others have stated, the "top contributors" are not necessarily those with the most knowledge, or even the right answers:  these users are the ones who the system (YA)recognizes as having a large proportion of their answers recognized as "best".  but by whom?  their peers?  designated skeptics?  themselves?  read and re-read Robert A.'s answer, it provides a glimpse into this!

use your own judgement and take all, ALL the information you read on YA with a grain of salt.

  15. Because of persistence and lot of time to put on this forum. The answers is most of the times very short and doesn't contain much information, mainly nagging about "guesses" and the difficulty in "predicting weather" the coming months (which is NOT about climate, something that people who has good knowledge about Climate Change, on both sides, knows very well)

I would be surprised if he ever takes the time to read the sources posted from the proponents. If he did, he wouldn't have time to answer so many questions. For all deniers, they are not interested in learning about global warming, they are just trying to maintain the false rumors that there is still a serious debate going on. A person who agrees with their belief is likely to receive a best answer no matter how well thought out their answers is. They don't need any sources.

  16. Because it's not real.

  17. The "Top Contributor" got that way by telling people what they want to hear, Baghdad Bob! If you want to listen to Doc gelatin, go ahead. We all need a good laugh.

  18. It just may be that "the top contributor" is not a Lemming!

  19. because there is just as much evidence that it is possible that the next ice age may come again according to some scientists. and not all scientist agree with that theory.  they only say that because of all the greenhouse effects that humans are releasing at the moment.

  20. Because its not real.

    The [very] liberal news media

only talks about the scientists who believe it.

  21. "Top contributors" can say whatever they want.   I'm a top contributor too.  That doesn't mean I know anything.  Top contributor just means you answer a lot of questions, not that you have any specific credentials in a particular area.

  22. Concensus is not science!

  23. A top contributor answers a lot of questions. There is only one way to find out if the person is also knowledgeable; read their questions and answers, follow their sources or references and judge for yourself.

Still not sure? Then go back through some of the AGW supporters questions and follow the science links back to source (Try Trevor, Dana1981, Bob for lots of links) and check out what they say. Anybody that is giving you facts will only be too happy to give you their sources of information or answer any further questions to the best of their ability.

Have you read the questions and answers of the Top Contributor in Global Warming? Does he provide sources? Does he appear knowledgeable? Check it out and decide for yourself.

  24. Dangerous question,

When ever i answer these i get deleted

but it has been my experience that somehow

the leadership which was sympathetic to nature has been replaced by those who advocate exploiting it

Schizophrenia may be part of the equation

One has to tow the line and fall in step with the general projected attitude or pay the consequences.

    Boom Boom Robert

  25. Because the top contributor has no interest in the science:

    http://norvig.com/oreskes.html

"The consensus was quantified in a Science study by Prof. Naomi Oreskes (Dec. 2004) in which she surveyed 928 scientific journal articles that matched the search [global climate change] at the ISI Web of Science. Of these, according to Oreskes, 75% agreed with the consensus view (either implicitly or explicitly), 25% took no stand one way or the other, and none rejected the consensus."

On Yahoo Answers, "Top Contributor" only means that the person spends a lot of time on this siteanswering questions, particularly ones by people with similar views (even incorrect ones) who will select the response as "best answer".  It does not mean that the person has any credibility.
