If global warming is such a concern today, why are houses being built in every stretch of open land?

I know there is now "green" houses but when you build a house, more energy will be used. And the houses are getting so big. People are building on a plot of land outside our house. These are huge houses. Why are people so greedy and get only what they WANT, not waht they NEED! It's pure noise across the street and they have dug 3 holes in our front yard to put lines underground. They don't want us going on our front lawn! And TV and Internet has been 50/50 in our neighborhood! There are hawks everywhere b/c their natural habitat is being destroyed! We can't even see the sun until 10 AM b/c of the HUGE houses! Why are people urging others to get something to be done when it gets worse everyday?

Global warming isn't even our fault. Every once in a while the Earth heats up and then it cools down. So no matter what we do it'll get hot and then we'll have another ice age and then it'll get hot again and so on.

Good point.  One problem--and its not jsut that people are greedy (though that 's obviously the case with some). its the diffference between general (social) needs and individual imperatives.

here's an example: if I had kids (nt yet!) and had the money, I would  want to have a nice home with a big yard--preferably several acres.  That would be a good environment for MY kids--and that would be a top priority for me.

But also--there's another aspect: ther's nothing wrong with a big house--it can be as "green" as a small one. Its far more important that it be designed well than how big it is.  Now there's the real problem--our homes are designed to make it easy for us to use enrgy for all kinds of things--but they are not designed to do that efficiently.
