My brother in law wants me to train in a triathlon with him. I'm a little afraid of the mysterious ocean. Who knows what dangerous creatures lurk in the ocean. I mean i'm afraid a shark will attack me the day everyone is in the ocean swimming that triathlon. Or what if I get attacked by a sting-ray, or some gigantic sea creature attacks me? killer whales? or some prehistoric creature that was thought to be extinct? the leviathan?

How can you make me feel better. I don't want ot be afraid, but the ocean looks kind of scary, and i'm just not in control. i mean in the ocean i have no control. i'm just swimming and the creatures beneath have an advantage and can strike at any time.

  1. If you swim or surf in the ocean you just have to accept that there are weird fish and sharks that live there. Also for a triathlon you won't be swimming that far out, usually right out past the waves.

  2. If you go swimming in San Diego, YOU WILL GET EATEN!!!! STAY OUT OF THE WATER IN SAN DIEGO, ESPECIALLY NORTH COUNTY!!! DON'T EVEN SURF, JUST STAY OUT OR YOU'LL DIE, I'M NOT KIDDING!!

  3. Well, if you think like this, you're not ready to swim in the ocan because you probably don't know about currents, waves, rips, those cool things.  Sure, you'll swim past the breakers, but you never know what weird current can suck you out (not really, but that's why people drown cuz they panic).  Now about your conflict with ocean creatures, out of the millions of surfers and swimmers that go in the ocean everyday, how often do you hear of an attack?  Less than car crashes happen for sure.  Look, sting-rays only swim on the bottom of the ocean floor and WILL TRY to get away if it knows your coming (tip: shuffle your feet).  Never hear of Free Willy attacking anyone do you?  Uhhh also, we're not in a living Jurassic Park, so put your prehistoric fears aside.  Lastly. Sharks.  The big killer.  Well, it's not.  Sharks don't try to kill you, most of their bites are investigatory, which is why you never hear of people get eaten whole.  When you swim, stay in the group and don't flail and splash around like a wounded fish and you should be good.  Really, just don't think of them.  Oh, I almost forgot.  Jellyfish are probably the more dangerous of creatures.  If you see one, there's  likely chance there'll be more depending on the species.  But if you see one, you might want to get out as they're hard to identify in the water.  (Whenever I get stung, I ususally get stung again).  Some are deadly, some aren't, but you never know...

There's my ocean knowledge.  I lived at the beach my whole life and only gotten hurt by a few Jellyfish, but I got out after some paniful ones.  Don't fear the ocean!  Don't get cocky either.

  4. Stingrays stay on he bottom so the only way to get stung is by walking around. The only thing you would have to worry about is Jelly Fish and Sharks. You can usually see Jelly Fish before you run into them. And Sharks... its been said that you have a better chance of winning the Lottery than getting attacked by a shark.

  5. well you will more than likely NEVER get attacked by a creature. unlless you rub against a jelly fish but that probably wont happen. there are no extinct sea creatures either. john f would probably tell you the best answer because he KNOWS the ocean. anyway, you will only get attacked by a stingray if you step on it and thats why you shuffle your feet when entering the water. the worst thing that can probably happen is you get pulled out on a rip current or theres an undertow. it sounds like you dont really know the ocean so before you go on a long swim, i suggest you read up and study the ocean. hope this helps.

  6. well if your afraid then just sit inside all day on the couch

  7. 2 Timothy 1:7 for God did not give us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love and sound mind. Trust God. If God tells you not to do it then don't but don't let your reason be fear. Just look at the bible and you will see so many people that God used for great things. Things that seemed impossible. Mary must have been afraid but she trusted God. David faced a giant but trusted God. Walk by faith (or should I say swim) not by sight. besides Jonah eventually got out of the whale so make sure you repent of everything before jumping in lol.... I hope this helps.

  8. Well, I think you're worrying WAY too much....I swim all the time and never got hurt...*except by a jelly fish*

I think you must be paranoid....Unless your like 10...or 11....but if not....you worry TOO MUCH...and it's just the ocean....

And must sharks you should be afraid of live in tropical waters.........

  9. i was in a camp one time, and we were on a night hike. we were all freaking out with the rustles and shadows everywhere. then my camp leader said, "The scariest thing is your imagination." i dont know why i still remember that. probably cuz that little tiny piece of advice has helped me so much. it's made me go for things. things that i would have never done without it because i was too scared. but after everything i did, i never regreted it, not one bit. so...the scariest thing is just ur imagination. whatever religion you are, have faith in ur God. what helps is wearing a necklace of your god. i do that and hold it whenever im scared or afraid, but i always make it through cuz of God and that advice. you can do whatever u set ur mind to, as long as u believe in urself. good luck! i hope you'll work up the courage to train with ur uncle.
