  1. hi...

You have to consider the following:

    1: trace your family tree

    2: what ancestry you have.

    3: records of migration.

    4: origin of emigrants.

5: always make a detail of every step.

    now your tribe is identified.

  2. check which indian reserves your ancestors were from

  3. Ask your Native American parent.  If you are half then either one of your parents are full or both of them are half.  Half is a lot and people who are half should have information on the tribe they descend from.  However, since you said you're blackfoot, you actually already know which tribe you descend from: the Blackfoot.  That being said, there are several interpretations of 'Blackfoot.'  One has connections to Montana/Canada and the other to locations east of the Mississippi.  In the first instance, the BlackfEEt (two Es not two Os) are a federally recognized tribe located in Montana.  BlackfOOt (two Os not two Es) is a designation used by many people who descend from east of the Mississippi to describe any of the following: A) Mixed Black and American Indian ancestry (name of tribe unknown but not "Blackfoot"), B) descendant of a tribe (name of unknown but not "Blackfoot") who used a 'slash and burn' method for their crops resulting in the blackening of the bottoms of their feet, or C) a 'catch-all' term used to describe some unknown but presumed Native American heritage.

Do your genealogy starting with yourself, tracing back to your NA parent, to their NA parent, and so on.  Your research will eventually take you to a geographic location where you can determine which "Blackfoot" you are.

  4. Here's a link to Blackfeet Genealogy website.

  5. The Blackfoot Confederacy is the collective name of three First Nations in Alberta and one Native American tribe in Montana.

The Blackfoot Confederacy consists of the North Peigan, the Blackfeet or South Piegan, the Kainai Nation, and the Siksika Nation or more correctly Siksikáwa. The South Peigan are located in Montana, and the other three are located in Alberta.

I would check with the tribal offices for these tribes and see if they have a searchable database available, so you can find your answer. If you are truly half, you might just have to apply using the vital stats of both your parents and the tribe will search, for free or a small fee, their records. If they find your parent then you will be enrolled.
