  1. Signs that a hamster has a cold are normally sneezing and runny nose. In more severe cases the hamster may have runny eyes, lethargy, weight loss, refusal to eat and drink or labored breathing/wheeziness.

Infections can be caused due to improper bedding like pine or cedar shaving, so change your bedding to carefresh or plain ripped toilet paper and see if the infection goes away in a couple of days. Also change the cage to an area away from drafts (like windows or near ac) as that could also cause respiratory problems in hamsters.

If the hamster exhibits signs of sneezing and running nose only and it continues to eat and drink and is active it should be kept in a warm room (not hot) of constant temperature and away from draughts. Some extra paper bedding should be placed in the cage and the hamster should recover within a couple of days. If the hamster does not recover after a couple of days or worsens veterinary advice should be sought as antibiotic treatment may be required.

If the hamster exhibits any signs of a severe cold (runny eyes, lethargy, weight loss, refusal to eat/drink or laboured breathing/wheeziness) veterinary advice should be sought immediately as antibiotic treatment is likely to be needed and failure to treat quickly could lead to bronchitis or pneumonia from which the hamster may have trouble recovering.

  2. Your hammy needs a trip to the vet. When a small rodent like a rat or hamster gets a cold I know with a rat they tend to hide the illness until its to late. That is why they say to examine your pet everyday so that when they do start showing symtoms like wheezing you can catch it fast and act upon it. With a cold it can start out as sneezing and then progress on to more severe symtoms. A vet can prescribe an antibiotic for the furball and it should clear it up pretty fast. There are no home remedys to have the animal take instead of an antibiotic. Take your lil one to the vet if he or she starts showing signs of illness.

  3. i put a hotwater bottle in myn to keep it warm wen my mouse got a cold it worked in 2 days it was back to normal and that was a mouse which is smaller so a hamster has a better chance of living just get a hot water bottle bu NOT TO HOT

  4. Keep it warm so turn radiator up a bit, also boil some water, let it cool then put it into its water bottle. I hoped this has helped. Good luck.

  5. keep him/her warm avoid drafty areas if he/she gets worse visit the vet.

  6. You can take him to a vet that specializes in small animals, or 'pocket pets.' But, you can buy him some vitamins. I found some at PetSmart. Here's a link:
