If he likes me then why?

A guy I really care for started saying another woman had a better body than me in front of our friends one night.He was really angry.When I asked another man friend of ours why he did that,my other friend said that he might actually be in to me/ fancy me.If that is the case,why insult me?Bear in mind this man is in his forties

If you're being judged just on your physical looks, you might want to reconsider your relationship with this guy!  Yes, looks are important but there's so much more to people.  Why should he make judgments about you that seem very shallow?  After all, you're more than just a body!  You have a mind, a spirit, and a personality among other things.  The real you is the sum of the parts, not just one part!
