Question:

If homosexuality is genetic...?

Okay I just read this from another question, it says basically that homosexuality is genetic.

_____

Sexual orientation is determined before birth. Scientific researchers specializing in human sexuality have shown that homosexuality is genetic.

Scientific research publications from October 2004 and June 2008 stated that scientists have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by g*y men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.

A 2005 study reported genetic scans showing a clustering of the same genetic pattern among g*y men on three chromosomes - chromosomes 7, 8, and 10. The regions on chromosome 7 and 8 were associated with male sexual orientation regardless of whether the man got them from his mother or father. The regions on chromosome 10 were only associated with male sexual orientation if they were inherited from the mother. This shows that there is not a single "g*y gene" but that sexual orientation is composed of several genes (polygenic).

A study from 2006 said that researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being g*y rises with the number of older biological brothers, but the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if g*y men were raised away from their biological families & that "the research suggests that the development of sexual orientation is influenced before birth."

___

My question is, Im the only g*y person in my family. How could it be genetic? Could someone be in the closet in my family?

Thanks!

  1. sumetimes it can be  choice but not all the time, mebe when u were younge, before u could remeber anything, sumething could have happened to u, tht made u now subconciously g*y, thts y people say theey are born with it, becasue they cant remeber tht far back, but theres no hard proof  tht it is genetics and i dont agree with it being gentics either, it's like saying g*y people are born with a mental disorder and i dont agree with that.

  2. Science is only a  guide  in trying to explain may things.

Empirical data regarding sexual orientation suggests that the youngest male in a multi-male sibling family is more likely to be g*y.

How about identical male(or female) twins. Of course, usually they both are straight. Occasionally one is g*y. And less frequently, both are g*y. Try explaining these occurrences, especially if they have the same environment in growing up.

Someone may be "in the closet" in your family, but just a coincidence.

Go figure! Certainly very interesting to try to explain our sexual orientation, but that's about it..."interesting"!

I am convinced that under certain circumstances, a man (or female) could become fully comfortable in a g*y relationship if one precipitates the  relationship. What type of circumstances? How about a prison or desolate location where there is  no(or very limited) outside contact? The need for affection and belonging can become very powerful, even when one of the individuals is abducted and kept "prisoner".

    Just some thoughts to ponder.

In your case(and mine), just accept who you are and enjoy(or make the best) of your lifestyle!

  3. I feel the same way..

I have grown up with my real father and mother.

I have an older brother :|

I always thought my dad was g*y.. like he doesn't really act it

I just get a weird vibe.

  4. Sexual orientation can be compared to eye color.

If both parents have brown eyes, all aunts and uncles have brown eyes, and all grandparents have brown eyes there is still a 7 to 8% chance their child will not be brown eyed. If there is just one aunt or uncle with green or blue eyes, the chance of the child not being brown eyed rises to 11 to 12%. The 11 to 12% range remains constant if aunts or uncles from both parents are not brown eyed.

Someone else in your family may be homosexual or bisexual, but they may be a more distant relative.

  5. no, not ever one in your family will have the same genes...is everyone in your family the same exact height? no

  6. I have read something similar (but unfortunately don't recall were). It said that homosexuality is genetic and yet it is also a genetic "ilness" . It said that the X chromosome in the women get defulted our s*x orientaition "changes". The defect may be transmited geneticay. So, maybe you have a defult chromosome. But I don't think being g*y s an ilness, but it is transmited genetically. So mybe you became g*y, but no one carried the gene. I think it is posible. I am bi my self, and I have an uncle who is completely g*y. No one else is g*y or bi, so maybe my moms X chromosome changed.

  7. i really dont think its genetic. for one, your gender may be deterrmind before your birth, but ppl become homosuxuals or they CHOOSE to once they start growin up. i hav NEVER seen a 10yr old homesexual kid so i doubt if they ever become homosexual when they grow up, they decided to be it.

  8. It's not genetic.  No one on my mother's or father's side is anything other than heterosexual.  My sister is not g*y.  The only g*y person in my family (including extended) is me.  My father has 14 siblings and my mother's mother (grandma) has 13 so it pretty much denies the laws of genetics that I'm the only non-straight one if being g*y is hereditary.

  9. i came out as bi about a year ago..

i read my mums notebook 2 days ago n it said shes considering becoming a L*****n..

so maybe it is genetic ;D

  10. Sure. I think somebody could definately be in the closet in your family.

  11. They could be in the closet, yes. My late father told me that where he grew up (MN), every place his family lived would be a pair of bachelors sharing a house. They'd always say they had not met the right woman. Sometimes they would be senior citizens. This was in the 1930s.

My cousin was g*y and died in the first wave of AIDS in the 1980s. I'm not so sure homosexuality runs in families, so to speak, just that percentages are pretty constant with the population.

  12. It could also be a recessive gene, only producing g*y offspring when both parents carry it and pass it on to 25% of their children.  Just like with other traits such as retardation, dwarfism, blond hair, blue eyes, or intersex.  Then again, there could be some closeted family members.

Ms W., you need to open your eyes and think for a change.  How do you know you've never seen a 10 year old g*y kid?  10 year olds don't have s*x, period.  That doesn't mean kids younger than that don't have crushes on others of the same gender.  I sure did.  When I realized I was g*y (in my 20s), I remembered having crushes on teachers, camp counselors, and even a friend of my mother's when I was four.  Of course I wan't sexually active or anything.  But when I was going through the coming out process, I knew that I had a choice of whether or not to act on my feelings, but either way would not change the fact that I was g*y, which was NOT a choice at all.

  13. There is always the possibility that there is someone closeted in your family.  You do have to take into account the 2005 study that concluded that sexual orientation is composed from several genes.  Only certain combinations of certain genes would produce this outcome.  Polygenic forces also explain why a cat may have a bunch of black kittens, but also a white one - it all depends on dominant and recessive alleles specific to certain people.
