  2. If a human is 1 year old and an orangutan is 1 years old then they are both 1 year old.

If a human is 2 years old and a dog is 2 years old then they are both 2 years old.

This whole "animal years" thing is kind of dumb.  Especially when you hear people say that their dog is really 50 years old...

Anyway I think you're trying to gauge the age of the animal with respect to the average length of a human life span.  Therefore here is the formula that you can use (assuming average human life span of 78 years):

Relative age of animal with respect to humans= (Age of Animal)*78/(Average Lifespan of Animal)

  3. Orangutan are actually two species. /Pongo pygmaeus/ are bigger and live on the island of Borneo. /Pongo abelii/ live on an island in Indonesia called Sumatra. The live around 45 to 50 years in the wild and push 60 in captivity.

A housefly (/Musca domestica/) may be able to perceive time faster than humans do, giving them faster reaction times. (This may be a similar chemical mechanism to the temporary feeling of time dilation right before a car accident.) This does not explain their short lifetimes (typically 25 days) which may serve as population control so the next generation has something left to eat. Generally speaking though (and there are exceptions), the hearts of small organisms are also small but must circulate blood at the right rate for the cells of their body, so they must beat at a high frequency, must be fueled by an elevated metabolism, and thus their bodies wear out faster.

For the most part, life spans are relative to the hazards a creature faces during its life. There is evidence that life in the Paleolithic wasn't that bad and people lived comfortably for longer than you'd think. It wasn't until the development of large scale farming that people's diets consisted of only a handful of staple crops, leading to malnutrition. In addition, living conditions (sanitation, population density, the "freedom" to have children more frequently) became squalid. We only live as long as we do today because our acquired technology and medical knowledge counteracts most of the problems civilization causes.
