If humans never existed which animal would have stepped up and become top species on planet.?

If humans never existed would the Gorilla, Chimp, someother primate have stepped up to take our place or would some other non primate been the top species on the planet

a very strange random and i suppose lucky, chain of events took place for us to become the way we are today.. we've almost been comepletely wipsed out at least twice in hinstory and have barely made it past the brink of exstinction both times..

nothing would have stepped up and made 'new' humans.. no apes would have evolved to be like us..

you see your question is kind of faulty as human have and will never master the sea.. even with our vast technologies and capabilities.. just like no other terrestrial animal will

also define 'top species'... has no natural predators? most diverse? greatest range?

seriously.. it's completely by chance that we ended up the way we did....

I dunno if any would be "top" species considering we've taken over the planet and mutilated most of it, destroying millions of other species and whatnot.   Dunno if there would be a "Top" species if we weren't around, considering only humans can do what we do.  In terms of control and territory, I doubt any other animal can be "Top" species 'cause they don't really s***w with everything like we do...

Intellectually, I'd assume gorillas or chimps.

Maybe even dolphins because of their extreme social ability.
