ok... it is more environmentally efficient to climb on branches than to build cars that use gas, so doesn't this mean that monkeys are in some ways more evolved than humans? thanks..."0)

  1. Clearly monkeys are more adapted to climbing trees.  Chimps which very well might have evolved from a bipedal common ancestor with humans are also far more adapted to climbing trees.  They are in fact so much more capable than us that it is not likely a human would survive in their niche.  They do not have the anatomical features needed to move through the trees such as the upper body strength and flexible grabbing feet.   Humans are not the top of an evolutionary pyramid as some people believe.  We are adapted to our environment.  Monkeys and apes are highly evolved for theirs.

  2. I am not saying anyone evolved from monkeys, but to answer your question: If human evolved from monkeys, monkeys are better at climbing branches because they did not evolve...

  3. Humans and monkeys are evolutionary cousins; humans did not evolve from monkeys.  Besides that, you should also know that evolution is not about getting better or becoming a super-race.  It's about becoming more suited to an environment through favoring traits which provide an advantage.  For monkeys, that's swinging from branches.  For humans, it's not.

Edit: Bearman, hunting?  Many species of monkeys are herbivores and those that are omnivores supplement the vegetation with insects.  Want to rethink that comparison?

  4. maybe we didnt evolve at all.... ooo scary thought huh people? I can't speak for ya'll but I know I came from a small planet that none of you have ever heard of....

  5. I know this was asked in jest, but the chimp has indeed evolved further from our common ancestor than has the human. They just evolved for a different environment.  If we had hands on both ends, then we could indeed climb better. While the great ape line (both bipedal & quadrapedal) evolved from monkeys, we haven't established that conclusively because they refused to die in the proper place to provide fossile evidence to prove it.

  6. There is no such thing as a species being "more evolved" than another.  Different species have just evolved in different directions.  Modern apes have evolved towards a more forested life, while early humans evolved towards being savanna hunters.  Also, environmental efficiency has nothing to do with evolution.  It works around what helps an organism at any given moment, not what will affect it in 100 years.

  7. Swinging from branches is an escape ability of monkeys and assists in their hunt for food.

Humans use AK-47's and John Deere.

  8. lol...maybe

  9. we did not evolve

    we were created by God

  10. *Sigh... to begin... we did not evolve from monkeys...

For your comments though; humans do not need to be able to climb on branches; we have no need to do so. The same as fish can swim better than humans.

Humans have evolved to our environment; which often does not include trees. It would not be practical for a society of billions of humans to be swinging to work along tree highways... thus we evolved.

  11. That humans like monkeys evolved from primates and then into their respective species, as in monkey and ape, like the specializations of each species, they are adaptations.

  12. Evolution means to change. Because it was no longer more helpful for humans to climb trees, we lost that skill, and gained new ones. Such as walking on two legs, gaining a better language, etc.

And if we were in a monkey's place, having to live in their environment, then yes a monkey could probably be considered more evolved than we are.
