If i'm single, can i claim 3 or 4 allowances? is there a limit, legally?

You posted this under UK but your other questions are under US.  If you are in the US, you can claim 3 or 4 allowances legally if you have extra deductions or credits.  Otherwise stick to not more than 2, preferably 1.  If you claim more than you are allowed to on your W-4, not enough taxes will be taken out during the year and you'll owe when you file your tax return, and might owe penalties for under withholding.
