  1. If you are doing a full workout you should ride it for roughly 20 minutes before your workout and 20 minutes after your workout to keep your hear rate up. Besides that probably 30 to 45 minutes 3 to 5 times a week.

  2. I can't remember the exact numbers but one of the ways to get a good workout is to ride as hard as you can for 1 minute and then slow down for a minute, and then ride as hard as you can for one minute.  It is all about getting your heart rate going.  I think you do that for about 10 minutes.  I know of professional sportsman who use this technique.

  3. 3 times a week for an hour each time.

    But....

If you just do a casual spin on the trainer it's not of much use.

You need to use the heart rate monitor and and what your goals are - fat buring, pure cardio, etc.  THEN you can get a work out!

    Good luck

  4. 45 min to 1 hour 3X per week.

  5. To improve your aerobic conditioning I would recommend riding 4-5 days each week for 45-90 minutes.  This, of course, is assuming that you are already reasonably fit and if not have received permission from your doctor to begin an exercise program.  As far as what to do when you ride, try to alternate between hard and easy workouts.  Try not to do 2 of the same workouts back to back.  It sounds simple but if you are just trying to improve fitness as opposed to becoming a competitive cyclist, this approach should work for you.
