  1. Make sure you contact your local cell phone company as soon as  you can.  Mine told me I would have to switch over to a particular plan and make certain my cell phone was equipped for international service.  I'll be doing this soon.

  2. i suggest you just get a sim card when ur in spain, itll be a lot cheaper, but it depends what you want it for i guess,

i find vodafone to be the best service provider in spain

  3. You would probably be better just buying a phone once you get here. The big companies like Movistar ( Spain's own ) or Vodafone often have great offers to encourage you to use their services. Do not go with Amena as this company has poor coverage in some areas.

Shop around and you will be surprised at the deals available

  4. T-Mobile has roaming agreements all over Europe including Spain.  New laws are going into affect here that reduce Roaming fees to 50 Euro cent or less

  5. Hi, any mobile telephone service or operator you actually have in your own country will work unless you have a temporary or disposable card/contract - then it will not work in spain or any other country but you own. If you want to "do" the least, you do not have to have to do much just take your current mobiles as si, and only change the options setting or preferences of your phone. You only  need to select the option/setting in the phone to find automastically the new web/operator connection it is easy and it will find it in seconds. However this has more disadvantages than advantages .

The only advantage is how easy it is to change the setting and how fast and easily your telephone will find the new web system and auto select the most eficient operator wherever you go in Spain. You conect your phone after landing in spain>select phone settings>select choose or find web / operator >select automatic search > save settings then press so phone scans the airwaves to locate best opertor based on reception criteria.

Disadvantages are basically that every call you make is considered an international call and billed as such.

If for example once in spain you call a friend waiting for you at the spanish airport only some meters away the call will be considered international plus the way it works is the spanish operator will call your countries operator wich will conect back to your friends phone. Even if your friend has same operator than you do, your original country operator, it will cost you more than if you were calling from your country to Spain, so it is a more expensive type of international call.

If you call a spanish phone of same operator than the new one automatically selected in Spain it will also be a specially expensive internatinal call. Additionally some operators also charge the person receiving your call so not only you will pay for the international call but they will charge extra fee to you poor friend who is just answering your call.

Best solution is to buy a disposable SIM card at any gas station, magazine store, estanco at airport or anywhere and replece SIM card already in your phone for new card, save your old since when you return to your country you will have to install it again to use it. The method is easy, and anyone can do it. There are also may different price range of temporary or disposable sim cards so you can choose the amount you want to spend. The advantage is that all calls made to spanish phones will be local and even the calls made to your home although international for the reason explained above will be cheaper than if you maintain your countries card. Make sure before you leave Spain you use up all the money you invested in the card or if you plan to return soon just take off and save the card, because those temporaru cards only work in the country you buy them although you can make all type of inetrnational calls.

However if you are rich, or in business and your business pays for phone call expenses then the best in terms of comfort is what I explained first.

    Hope this helps

    Best regards

    S

  6. t-mobile works all over europe since it is a german company.

When I go to europe I take my UNLOCKED phone to europe you can get a NOKIA one on ebay for 30 bucks(make sure it doesnt have any cell phone company name on it... Its a long story on why not but trust me it can cause problems sometimes. Then I buy a sim card for 15 euros I have a european phone number and I my family calls me. Incoming phone calls are free in europe. My husband is from Spain and he says that vodaphone is the best.

If you insist on useing your US phone.. Its going to cost you at least (tmobile prices) 99 cents a min for roaming charges and mins off your contract mins.
