  1. It has been proven that hamsters' immune systems are more similar to human immune systems than alot of other animals.  In theory it is possible for a hamster to contract a cold from you but not likely.  Just wash your hands and don't sneeze on your hamster


  2. You will not transmit your illness to your hamster. The only animal that CAN get a human virus is a ferret.

  3. i would not say its impossible after all colds are colds and everthing gets em. but it is more common for you to catch sickness from your hamster. as they are so small, their immune systems are always working more than ours which is also increased by their extremely high heart rate.

  6. it is possible. it just depends on what ur illness is. and they can catch part of what u have, just in a different form. when ever i got sick i never touched any of my rodents for the fear of passing it on to them. if ur sick dont handle ur hamster. they have very weak immune systems and can catch things easily and wont handle the illness very well.

  9. Hamsters are very hardy animals and fall sick rarely. Until now, it was thought that humans cannot transmit any sickness to hamsters. However recent research has proved that cold / flu is caused by the same virus in humans and hamsters and can be spread from humans to hamsters through sneezing etc. if the hamster is already weak or sick. For precaution sake, try to minimise handling your hamster if you are having a cold / flu.
