  1. Once you retain the attorney, they file and get you a case #, by law the creditors have to stop calling. Once the attorney receives your list of creditors they submit to the court and the courts notify all the creditors by mail that you have filed. It usually takes about 30 days...But, the creditors call you, you tell them you filed, and they will request your case #, give it to them and that should be the end of it.  The whole bankruptcy if filing a chapter 7 should take about 4 months to be complete.  Good Luck!

  2. Not sure about how long it takes for the phone calls to stop, I guess when they all know what is happening.

But are you sure bankruptcy is something you what to do.

It will take you 7 sevens before you can get any credit again, before you can even get a mobile phone contract.

    But good luck.

  3. After you file for Bankruptcy Protection, when a collector calls, you tell them that you have filed for bankruptcy protection, give them the case # and your attorney's name, and attorney's number, that should be the last time they call.

In reality, they usually keep calling for a while after that.
