  1. Firstly, don't expect landing a job with one of the bigger companies unless they come and find you, whether through a recruitment at an expo, or through your school. You will probably find it best to start with an actually aviation maintenance company, such as AAR Aircraft Services, and work on jets there, to gain experience. Most of the mechanics who dominate the field of major-airline maintenance have years of experience behind them, and a good chunk of them are former military mechanics. Once you gain experience, though, UPS and FedEx probably pay the highest; for airlines, Southwest, American, and maybe Delta fall into place next, but not necessarily in that order. Best advice I can give you though is, don't do it for the money. Do what you love because you love it. If you want to work on planes, sure, you may land a job making $100,000+ a year; but when I worked for UPS, the mechanic spent 8 hours a day reading manuals out of boredom. Sure, he got a big paycheck, but he got nothing else. Hope this helps, best of luck to you!

  2. It all depends on if you are looking at starting pay or top out pay. Starting pay can be as low as $ 10/hr to $18-$19/hr depending on the airline. Top out pay is anywhere from $24/hr to $41/hr. The progression from starting pay to top out pay is on average 5 years. Hope this helps :)

  3. currently southwest has the highest paid technicians in commercial aviation in the USA.  The cargo companies pay well also.

  4. $12.00 an hour, welcome to the world of aviation.

Some of the highest paying are cargo companies like UPS, FedEx and ABex.  Depending on your certifications and overtime, in time you could easily make over $100k annually.  It just depends on how hard you want to work.

  5. depend on where you are. Get your A&P license first cause without it you're nothing. Technician forever.

  6. OK, first off... in the two years it will take you to get your A&P ticket, the highest paying company will change about 6 times, so it really doesn't matter what it is right now.  Also, you won't be starting out at anywhere near top pay.  You'll have to work your way up from the ground up...  Figure at starting out at around $12.00 per hour.
