  1. No. You buy as seen, though it has to be road worthy at time of sale.

    I would advise ANY one buying privately who is not very knowledgeable about cars to have an AA/RAC check done or have it inspected by a professional mechanic. With parts prices being what they are, particularly on imports, even fairly small faults can be surprisingly expensive.

    A friend of mine bought a Saab privately, body and interior nice but the engine was running a bit roughly. Owner said it was probably just as he had not used it for last 3 months and should clear quickly. Yeah right!  It has cost my pal over £800 to have it fixed!

  3. Nope, private used cars are "as is".  Even most car lots used cars are "as is"

  4. No, only dealerships that are licensed to sell vehicles are legally obligated to do that. Sorry, you really do get what you pay for.

  5. No. Private car sales are always "as is". There's no implied or expressed warranty. Just fix it and drive it.
