  1. I know this may not be the answer you want, but for your income level, I think that kind of rent is definately too expensive. Let's take a look at the math:

$900 take home - $475 for rent = $425 leftover per month for every other expense

Now let's take food into account. At the very best, if you never average more than $2.50 per meal (a really small allowance for meals, never eating out really) that is 3 x $2.50 x 30 days a month = $225 per month.

    $425 - $225 for food = $200 per month left

Cell phone? Best case is probably $30 a month, probably much more. Cable TV if you use it? $30 at least. Use internet? At least another $25, unless you do dial up, but then you need to pay for a home phone line. Smoker? $50 a month at absolute minimumn. Want to hit the bar? $30 per pop if you are frugal. Do you drive? Maintenance on vehicles, gas, and if you don't drive, bus fare. Good chunk of money. Entertainment? Nope. You have $200 to get you through the month once you take out rent and food.

Best bet is to sit down and do a budget for youself. Identify what you spend money on and how much. Only you can determine whether you can afford it, but I can't see anyone living on $200 a month outside of rent and food. Good luck to you, and e-mail me if you want to talk specifics. I love to help people.

  2. As a leasing agent who regularly evaluates tenant applications, we always look for at least 3 times the monthly rent.  Even when we have a high end house for lease for $10,000 a month (we work in San Francisco), the applicants sill needs to show income of at least $30k per month, gross.

You should not spend more than 1/3 of your income of housing, so keep on looking!

    Good luck!

  3. what is your gross pay before taxes, etc.

    I'm gussing around 1100?

    At 1100, I wouldn't spend more then 330 a month MAX.

  4. You would not qualify for that with my company.

We require income to be 3 times the rent to make sure that tenants will be able to pay.

I think you could make it if you budget well and don't spend ANY money on unnecessary things. But it will be hard

  5. It could work. This is a percentage that is normal in California and NYC.  But nowhere else.  You should be paying $400 max.  Oh well. You'll be eating beans and rice.  We've all done that. /

  6. its alright as long as u dont eat alot and ur car bills are not 2 high
