If i buy Garmin Navigation system for my car, do I have to pay for the latest upgrade of map every time?

I am not sure about the pay part, but you can check for available updates with Garmin at the link below.  My experience with a different brand is that the map database is pretty accurate, but some roads that were added or re-configured in the last year or two are wrong on the navigation device.  Maybe I should check for an update to my map!


  2. No, you don't have to upgrade.  You can if you feel that there have been significant changes in roadways since you bought your GPS, but otherwise, you can continue using the older version of the software.

    It's similar to updating your pc software.  Windows 95 still works, but there have been significant changes that have left 95 behind.  You can still use it, but you might be missing a few changes.  If you can accept missing those changes, you're good.  If you feel you need them, you update your software.
