If i buy a 5.1 amp and speakers how would i make movies play in 5.1 surround?

and also can you play music in 5.1? and also do you have the amp plugged straight into your tv or does it go straight from my xbox (for playing hd dvds)

Plug the coax/optical cable from the Xbox to your amp/sound controller.

Then set your Xbox to play 5.1. Only music recorded in 5.1 will play in 5.1 but all music can be played over the speakers.
