if i buy a car at a public auto acution and it has a lean how do i get the lean removed? in nys if that matters any... what steps will i have to take to get the lein removed???

  1. For the vehicle to be legally sold at auction it should not have a lien. If this has happened, you need to contact the auction company.


  2. Impound auctions and the like, The original owner still liable for the Lien. The auction company fills out paperwork with the state and they should be issuing a new title for the vehicle with no liens on it.

  3. The owner of the car must pay off his loan to get a clear title. Don't buy a car with a lien on the title unless you and the buyer have a foolproof way of him using your money to pay off the loan and getting you the title immediately. Usually, you and the buyer would go to his bank together to pay off his loan. Don't go with a promise from the buyer to get you the title. You may never see it.
