im about 5' 9" 125 pounds, size 11 feet, 13 years old. i want to buy a snowboard this year but i want to get a good one that i can keep for awhile. my question is, if i get a 153 cm board, could i still use it just as well if i grew more. like say i grew to be 6 feet tall (yeah i know thats a lot of growing, and im just asking this as a precuation). could i still use a 153 cm board? or say i grew taller than 6 feet, could i still use a 153 cm board?

thanks

  1. Ya dont worry, i've been using the same board for 8+ years, since i was like your age, i was 6 feet when i got the board, and i'm now 6'3, and my board still works as well as any other i've tried, in fact, better!

I wuv my board! its served me well in these 8 years! and its in almost perfect condition, because i pamper it lol.

  2. ya bro no worries. I'm 5'8 and I'm riding a 145. i should be riding a 150-154ish board, but i like riding short board, it gives you more maneuverability but less speed. all depends on you.

  3. im in the same situation as you, and i recommend renting for a short time until you hit around 15 or 16.  then you can look into buying.  it also depends on what style you are.  if you are a freestyle boarder, then you might like a shorter board, but a slopestyle boarder may prefer a longer one.  freestyle is for terrain parks and moguls, whereas slopestyle is more for powder and groomed terrain.

  4. The rule of thumb for buying a snowboard is to have it come up to your chin, but since your still young and more then likely still growing i would go with a longer board.  I'm 5'11'' and i have a 159 cm board so you might want to talk to someone at a board shop if possible.

  5. Everyone is putting to much stock into this question.  Ride what you feel comfortable with.  It's not like you are going to grow a foot in one year.  If you are that worried then of course buy a bigger board.  Where do you ride?  The park/pipe or big mountain?  If it's freestyle don't sweat it... small boards are great for jibs and tricks but slow on speed.  If you ride in deep pow pow then go longer... otherwise you won't be able to stay above the snow a will sink like a torpedo.  Just look at some of the pros... I know a few who are 6'2'' and ride a 151 for jibs, a 154 for park, and 157 for the deeps.  Don't just follow the rule of thumb... rules are meant to be broken.

  6. haha.

    dude.

you could not have come closer to the question i was about to ask.

except i turned fourteen 10 days ago, but whatever.

yeah i know it's really annoying cuz i want my own board, and a good one too, but i'm not about to spend 400 bucks or whatever if i'm not going to be able to use it next year.

let me know what you find out =]
