If i buy the new g3 iphone can i use it only as an mp3 - video player ? without phone contract?

i really just want an mp3-video player. but since the new i phone is cheaper than the i touch i was wondering if i can use the i phone only as an i touch. without having to pay for the phone contract.

if u want the iphone 3g without contract its $600 !! with contract its $200 so ur better off buying the itouch it will save u money.

That's why it's cheaper, AT&T pays part of the price of the phone for the 2 year promise of using their service.

Separate from the contract and the 3G costs $599 and $699US, although they are currently not available separately from the contract in the US.
