If i cant afford to pay off a collection item?

if i send $1 a month to a collection agency would that prevent them from suing, getting a judgement against me?

I'm going to tell you that they will not and will cont. to try to collect. The only way they would is if the balance is like 5bucks.

as long as they accept a payment yes. I doubt they will accept a $1 payment. Try sending in $10 and see if it cashes. If they cash it, you wont get a judgement. Depends entirely on how much you owe. If it is under $1000, there is a 99% chance they wont do anything. If you owe $50000, they will come after you.
