If i don't have wireless internet and i buy a linkskys thingy, does that send out a wireless signal?

Okay so i have comcast high speed internet and i have a labtop. i hate the fact that i have to plug it in useing a long eithernet cord, so i was wondering if i buy a linksys wireless thing and plug it into my modem box thing will i now have wireless internet? and my box only has 1 eithernet port but if i plug it into the linkys can i use wireless and use one of the four ports in the linskys to run to my xbox?? someone please help me, thanks :D

Where does everyone get "labtops".  I know stores sell LAPTOPS but I've never seen a labtop!?!?!?

The linksys thingy will only work for you if your "LABTOP" has wireless capabilities.

if you get a wireless router (linksys does make them and I like mine) and your laptop has a wireless network card (you can get one at the same place you get your router that can just plug right into your laptop) then yes, it'll work just fine =)
