If there is a mistake on it, then it's counterfeit and worth nothing. You might be able to use it and have nobody notice, but that wouldn't be very honest, would it?

If it's got a "mistake" then it's not real and you'll get zip for it.

Take it to a coin dealer.  They will be able to tell you what it is worth and if it real or counterfeit.
