  1. I got my G.E.D. in '87, graduated junior (community) college in '91, and got my bachelor's degree in '93.

    My major? English

    Minor? Education

I've been teaching school since I graduated in '93, and I have 4.0 graduate G.P.A.

That being said, a G.E.D. alone isn't worth the paper that it's written on. If you want to pursue a career and make a decent wage, you must (99% of the time) follow up with college coursework.

  2. Hi! Good question!

Once you have gotten into college (e.g.: community college), whether or not you finished high school with a GED or a HS Diploma, yes, you can tranfer to a University.....at least, you can now.

BUT, having said that, many colleges and employers are about to stop considering the GED, and that is why some states now require that students finish a complete 4 years. I'm afraid that if you don't go through with the entire 4 years and get your HS Diploma, you'll regret it in the future. For example, some branches of the military will not consider applicants without a high school diploma, unless it is in extreme circumstances. This, to them, signals that you were not willing to go the long haul and commit to the accomplishment. Many other civilian employers feel the same.

I encourage you to do anything you can to get that high school diploma, and you'll never regret it.....and there's nothing better than walking across that stage and finally getting that diploma! You can't be THAT far behind. Take the opportunity to take classes in the summer if you need to in order to catch up. And if you think you're not going to graduate at the right time, I'd rather stay an extra year than to never earn a high school diploma. Plus, from what I hear, the GED is REALLY hard these days....some people take it 10 times and can never pass it....then, they are left with no other options.

Whatever you choose, please be really, really wise with your decision, and good luck with everything!
