If i get directv hd service, can a non hdtv still work?

We have four tvs working on a directv package, but i just got a hdtv and i want hd service. Will the other three tvs still work if i get the hd directv service?

  1. Yes, they will.  They just won't be as good viewing on the hd channels.


  2. Absolutely!  I have HD service but only HD on 4 TV's and standard on the others.  The HD channels just don't show up on the Non HD TV's.

Congress mandated that cable and satellite providers make analog TV available at no extra charge until 2012, at least.  Those will be carried on certain channels, while their HD version will be carried on different channels.  What you'll be paying for HD service is access to those HD channels, sort of like premiums channels.

    Your old TV's will still work on the analog channels, and your new HD TV will work on both the HD and analog channels.
