If i get my permit 3 months before i turn 18 do i still have to keep my permit for 6 month before my License?

I'm turning 18 in december, i know i can get my permit before 3 months before i turn 18 but when i turn 18 can i get my license or do i still have to wait 3 more months.

I live in Texas, and how it works down here, if you get your driver's license before you turn 18, you have to get it renewed yearly until you are 18, down here, it's called a previsionary license. Also, how it works down here, if you get your driver's license before you turn 18, you don't have to drive with an DPS officer to pass the test. You only do that when you turn 18 and after. Like I said, it depends on the state you live in. Go to your local DPS office and pick up a driver's guide. It should tell you the state requirements and regulations that are required for the driver's test and everything else.


  2. Depends on the state. Typically you have to have a permit to learn to drive. After that you will undergo a drive test to prove to the state you can drive safely and effectively.

    I know in FL you can get it as soon as you turn 18.

    Just ask about it when you go to get your permit.
