  1. There really isn't much they can do, exam-wise, and not any real reason to do anything.  If your main trouble is severe cramping, and there is not a chance you could be pregnant and miscarrying- they will pretty much send you home.  If pregnancy and miscarriage are not probabilities, I suggest you take something besides Tylenol.  Try Motrin (ibuprofen), and take two 200mg tablets, and some light nibble to keep your stomach calm.  If that doesn't get you some relief within 30-45 minutes, take another 200 mg tablet.   You can also try a heating pad, and massaging the lower belly rather firmly to help calm the uterus itself.  If you don't like Motrin, you can also get relief from Naproxen Sodium, called Naprosyn or Aleve.  Take two of those to start with, and then one every 8-12 hours.  That particular drug is wonderful for really bad cramps.  Of course, if there is the chance you could be miscarrying, you really should go to the ER and be seen.  If you aren't, then once this period is over, it might be a good idea to see your gynecologist and consider taking birth control pills as a means of avoiding the bad cramps in the future.
