  1. Nope. If you or your family has broken the law, they won't accept you.

  2. You could always try.

I think a felony is what they're really looking for.

  3. I don't think it will.  Your best bet is to be honest about it.  One offense shouldn't be grounds for unhirablity, but lieing about it will be!

  4. First of all, shoplifting if the value is under 100.00 is not a felony so it will not be part of any record, juvenile or adult. It is considered a misdemeaner 1. If they pressed the issue. Otherwise they could consider it a summary offense which is basically a non-traffic ticket. Did you have to pay a fine? Go to court? It should not affect you in joining any kind of police program.

  5. hmm well serves you right for shoplifting.

  6. You did not commit a felony offense and you are under the age of 18 so when you reach the age of 18 your juvenile record will be locked away, though when you apply for a police or federal position your juvenile record is open for them to read. You should also know that if at any time you receive a felony you cannot be a police office. This should not affect you in any manner of wanting to be a police officer. And you have to work your way up to being a detective you don't start being a detective just so you know.

  7. Shoplifting, especially as a juvenile, is not a felony. The only way police will dismiss you is if you commit a felony as an adult. Childhood felonies are often looked at, but childhood misdemeanors are almost irrelevant.

  8. Its always been my understanding any crime committed by a juvenile is not accountable past 18 years of age.  However, when law enforcement agencies do background checks the things they look for are criminal history, type of offense, what was the outcome at trial  guilty, not guilty or no contest.  whether or not any restitution was paid, community service, behavioral services for the offender.  And also any recurence of the same offense in the future.  While they may allow a minor infraction to an extent consider this.  LE jobs in most areas are highly competeitive with most applicants applying several years before getting in if at all.  That being said if I am an admissions board and Ive got A and B and both are the same except that A has your story even at 13 and there are 5000 people competing for 60 spots who do think I would choose.  Clean up your act, ditch the crowd that causes this behavior, start getting involved with community groups, that support positive output from teenagers.  By the way I have been told by police recruiters that a degree in criminal justice isnt always a  way too advance into LE.  With todays criminals branching into areas like finacials, ID theft, hate crime, homicide etc, police departments look for officers, detectives with just as much diversity  such as psycholgy and buisness management.  Cops have told me that the academy will teach u as much CJ as you need.

  9. if you went to court and you got a criminal record than I'm very sorry but you cannot be a police officer except if you go to a foreign country like Nigeria which they don't really care. I think you should start applying to McDonald's because not alot of places would hire you with a criminal record.
