  1. Weeder, this is the first time I have to disagree with you =) what you described could either be a 3LNB or a 5LNB dish (the difference being that the 5LNB is the HD).

First, are you asking if it's HD for the Feb 2009 switch? If so, you don't have to worry about High Definition (HD), as it is only one format of DIGITAL programming, the other being Standard Definition (SD), which you would already have. DirecTV is already broadcasting in digital and their customers will not see a change come February.

If you want HD, however, you can check a few things. Like I said, Weeder was close with the HD dish thing. If you look at your dish, you'll notice three door k**b-like things called LNBs. Two of them on a 5LNB dish do double duty and pull two sets of information (thus making it 5 instead of 3). The easiest way you can tell is to look at how they're arranged.

On a 5LNB dish you will see two of the k***s underneath a cover and the third sticking off to the side. Your dish might also say SLIMLINE in the middle (though it could be an older HD dish if it doesn't). If it doesn't have the cover, you will need to get it upgraded, which is relatively easy and painless. You just need to call 1 800 531 5000 and have them order a new dish for you.

  2. just call them theyll give you a new dish, and i think you need to pay extra for hd service and the one time reciever cost

  3. Probably not, but it's easy to tell.  Just look for three LNB's (the white things pointing at the dish) and you're good to go.
