  1. For San Jose you need clothes for warm wet weather.  The Monte Verde you should be prepared for really wet weather a bit cooler (about 50 degrees F- an extra sweater).  Both places can get windy so a wind breaker, rainproof, light weight.

Of course a camera, a small as you can get and are willing to use.  You want to be able to carry it around with you and use it, but keep it small and "cheap."

Figure on spending a least what you spend in the U.S. for meals, rooms, etc. during a vacation.  Costa Rica is expensive but just as you can get by on the cheap in the States you can in Costa Rica.

Keep your passport with you but separate from your money.  Keep several photocopies of the ID page spread around your person and baggage so if some things gets stolen you still have a good chance of having a copy.

Plus all the usual travel precautions, medicines, simple first-aid kit (wallet type).  Travel light but bring extra socks, your feet will be getting wet at this time of year.

  2. Bring jeans, a hat, sunblock, tennis shoes, and bug spray.
