  1. Definitely get the HDMI cable, but don't pay more than you have to.

HDMI cables for less than $10 with free shipping.

  2. I would have to say yes, No hdmi cable = No hi-def. It may not be true hi-def, but its still hi-def

  3. It is worth it but don't go out and buy the expensive Monster cables.  For 12 feet or less, the cheaper HDMI cable that you can find at Target will be just as good.  As long as you get a picture, the cheaper cable is just as good since the source is digital.  For lengths over 12 feet, then I would buy the more expensive cable.

Also, you did not mention if your PS3 has a Blu Ray player.  If it does, then you need the HDMI cable to be able to watch Blu Ray movies in Hi Def.

  4. Yes.  That's the short answer.  Get HDMI cables.

You can use either Component or HDMI to carry HD signals, but I don't think PS3 will send out HD over component, so I'd have to say you need the HDMI to view HD content.  There's an HDMI connector on the PS3, but no component connector.

Without HDMI, you will get the standard composite 480 signal (shipped in the box) with their special cable harness.
