  1. depends on the severity of his situation and what he can have his doctors say and how he does at the evaluation for the ssi doctors....also not every one who has add/adhd and or other learning disabilities deserves to get ssi....

look at all the famous people who have add...dyslexia....dyscalculia...and on and on that have succeded in life....

at my house my husband wasnt even diagnosed until he was 29 yrs old.....and he was even in the military...my son has severe learning disabilities including adhd and up to 7 other combinations and he graduated from high school and even college(with some help...but you have to help yourself too) and now writes computer shareware and sets up websites....again you have to be willing to help yourself and find ways to educate yourself and others in your life.

the school district eventually sent my son to a special school that worked only with children who had diagnosed learning disabilities...and there are lots more of those than you think....

does he have an iep in place?  when was he diagnosed? why did you and he allow things to get this bad?(my son was beaten up every day for almost a week before i went to the school and asked why nothing was being done and if it did not get done i was taking the school, district and the teachers to court) your district probably has an office that deals with just such instances as you are talking about go to the school, talk to his teachers, counselors, and admin staff to see what has already been done and what are the next steps....

  2. I have a friend that has a son with ADHD and they had to get a lawyer and fight for five years before they got SSI. They got alot of backpay!! I have applied for my son recently but he has autism. Call the Social Security office and talk to them. They will send you the paperwork to fill out. It took us about 6 months before we found out anything. At the time they said he was disabled but we made too much money. We had our income to change, I applied again and since he was already in the system it only took 4 days. Proving the child is disabled is the hard part. It takes a while to get all the information from the doctors and schools. They take their own sweet time!! Good Luck with the SSI and with your son!!

  3. I've had ADD since I was in elementary school and I've always gotten SSI. I don't know anything about how to apply for it, sorry.
