If i have a criminal record, can i still be accepted for medicine in the UK?

I really need help with this one. My grades are good however i have a conviction in which i have been referred for 6 months to a youth offeding team. I have to see them every weds and friday evening to do activities etc.

Also i am doing my A levels. I start second year in september

  2. In principle, once your sentence is complete, your offence is covered and should not affect you in other aspects of life.

    However, university medical schools will take a view depending on the nature of your offence.  If it was wounding, GBH, carrying a firearm or a knife, going prepared for burglary or other property theft, serious dishonesty (such as credit card fraud in large sums or misrepresentation), then a university may see you as an undesirable character and is permitted to reject you on those grounds.

    I suggest you need some proof of reformation for your application in October this year such as charity work, activities with disabled people, community voluntary work, work experience with a public-responsibility business (pharmacy, doctors clinic, law firm, primary school, retirement home).  You get the idea.  Your YOT officer should be able to suggest such ways for you to improve your public appearance.

    If you truly are a reformed character, then I hope this approach will be helpful.
