  1. ??  This depends on what that contract says.  If it says you work 7 1/2 hours per day Monday to Friday, then that's what you work.  You can't randomly change your working time or days without manager's permission.

    How could any employer operate if employees just showed up when they felt like it?

The above answer is broadly right, but there is legislation in the UK that, for example, means that if you have young children you have a right to ask your employer to allow you to go part-time while they are young. Your employer is not obliged to agree, but they would need a good reason not to.

  3. As you state you have a full time contract you can not just choose to reduce this. You can only take reduced hours if your employer agrees to this. If your job is full time service specific i.e it requires that the position is filled full time, your employer may refuse or you may have to come to an agreement to maybe job share your full time position.

    If you need to reduce the hours for personal reasons such as young children, dependent relative etc. then you should put this in writing to your employer, they are then obliged to reply in writing any reasons why they may refuse.

    If you do not for filll your contracted hrs then this could lead to disciplinary action,sub mittt a letter asking for your hrs to be reviewed and explain to them what you can do and what you can not do if they agree to new hrs a new contract will be drawn up.
