If i have a visa or mastercard that is debit will i be able to use it in new york no matter what bank use?

i am from south louisiana. If i have a debit card that is a visa or mastercard..... will it work everywhere in new york no matter what bank i use in the south?

From my personal experiences with debit cards is that they work everywhere, sometimes though the place HAS to run it as credit because the bank wasnt in their system (only happened to me once).

that depends?  are you moving to new york or just visiting?

if you're just visiting then yes you can use it anywhere the visa or mastercard logo is.

If the place you want to use it accepts Visa or Mastercard, yes, they have to accept your card.  

As far as using it in an ATM, just be sure it accepts your network (i.e. Star, Cirrus, etc.).  Most American ATMS do.
